Founded in 2005 by brother and sister William and Isabella Wemyss, the house drew inspiration from William’s experience at the family’s French vineyard, exploring how carefully selected single malt whiskies could come together in distinctive, balanced expressions.

At the heart of its approach is a desire to make whisky more approachable. Wemyss gives its core expressions names that describe their flavour, offering newcomers an inviting guide to what awaits in the glass: The Hive suggests honeyed sweetness, Spice King promises warming spice, and Peat Chimney introduces gentle smoke.

These names help drinkers choose according to the flavours they enjoy, without needing extensive knowledge of whisky regions or distilleries. They also invite experienced enthusiasts to explore whisky through a fresh perspective.

Behind that simplicity lies careful craftsmanship. Led by Isabella, the blending process brings together complementary single malts, which are then allowed to marry in oak casks so their flavours can integrate.
